THIRD “PILL” ON THE CLP2200E: A GUIDE TO PRINTER DRIVERS 📟

Thank you for your interest in this ‘third pill’ of our newsletter series on the DTM CLP2200e colour printer!

Today’s pill focuses on how to find the right print settings, particularly with regard to quality and, more specifically, saturation.

We’ll explain in simple terms which features come into play with each saturation setting, so you can optimize your prints to the full.

Now, let’s get down to business: the printer offers no fewer than 15 saturation settings, divided into three quality levels—“Draft”, “Normal” and “Optimal”. This variety allows you to choose the perfect option for every need, whether yours or your client’s.

But how does it actually work?

If you need to print a PDF with areas of 100% true black (R0 G0 B0), here’s what happens with the different saturation settings:

- Color + Pure Black: uses the CMY cartridges plus K, but the K is used only for the black areas, to ensure a true, intense black.

- Color only: uses only the CMY cartridges, even for the black areas, with less deep results.

- Color + Mixed Black: combines the CMY and K cartridges, but the CMY colours are added to the K in black areas, creating a deeper black with a few splashes of colour that give a ‘fuller’ effect.

These options are then subdivided into ‘– High Ink’, ‘– Medium Ink’ and ‘– Low Ink’, so you can adjust the amount of ink applied—low, medium or high—depending on the result you wish to achieve.

All these settings work in bidirectional print mode, unless you select the ‘Proof’ or ‘HQ’ options, which instead use unidirectional printing—perfect for photos of the very highest quality and incredible detail.

Speaking of superior quality… If your aim is photorealistic prints, then you’re better off opting for Primera’s LX series, which is unrivalled in this regard.

The CLP2200e delivers good print quality, but if you want images that look like real photographs, we would definitely recommend the LX910e.

On the other hand, if you need a deeper black and 100% black areas, then the CLP2200e is the right choice for you.
